Setting the Scene

  • No. 5-seed Ohio State heads into the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 4-seed North Carolina on Monday evening.
  • Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. ET from Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C.
  • The Buckeyes (24-10) won its first NCAA Tournament game since 2011 when they knocked-off No. 12-seed James Madison 90-80 last Saturday.
  • North Carolina (25-8) advanced to the second round with a 71-56 victory over No. 13-seed Liberty.
  • The game will be aired live on ESPN2. Marc Kestecher and Christy Winters Scott will have the call.

    Ohio State In The NCAA Tournament

  • This is Ohio State's 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance and the first since 2012.
  • This is all eight of Ohio State's active players first NCAA Tournament.
  • OSU has an overall record of 24-21 in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Ohio State scored 90 points in the opening round win over JMU. That was the seventh time OSU has scored 90 or more points in an NCAA Tournament game.
  • The Buckeyes have failed to get out of the first round just six times in their previous 21 appearances.

    McGuff vs. North Carolina

  • He guided Xavier to six appearances in his nine season with the Musketeers.

  • McGuff's best run as a head coach came in the 2010 tournament when he navigated Xavier to the Elite 8 where it fell 55-53 to Stanford.
  • McGuff was an assistant coach at Notre Dame during the Irish's national championship run in 2001.

  • Kelsey Mitchell made two 3-pointers in the game and now has 124 for the season.
  • Mitchell has made at least one three-pointer in all 34 games this season, tying the NCAA record for a three-pointer consecutive games in a season .
  • Ameryst Alston played in her 100th career game as a Buckeye.
  • Alston's 28 points was her most since 29 points on Feb. 21 and her 17th 20-point game this season.
  • Alexa Hart recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds. She had seven blocks, adding to her OSU single season record of 128.
