COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's basketball team (25-6) received a No. 8 seed in the Des Moines Regional and will play No. 9 seed Florida (19-12) at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, March 18 in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Ohio State is making its record 10th-consecutive appearance in the Big Dance and its 21st overall.
The winner of the Ohio State-Florida game will take on the winner between No. 1 overall seed Baylor (34-0) and No. 16 UC Santa Barbara (17-15) at March 20.
Ohio State will be facing Florida for the first time. The Buckeyes have never played Baylor and are 1-1 vs. UC Santa Barbara.
Head coach Jim Foster is making his 13th consecutive trip to the tournament and his 26th overall with a record of 34-25 all-time. In Foster's 10 seasons at Ohio State, the Buckeyes have earned No. 1 (2006), No. 2 (2005, 2010), No. 3 (2009), No. 4 (2003, 2007, 2011) and No. 6 (2004, 2008) seeds in the tournament. Ohio State has earned at least a second-round finish in seven of nine seasons under Foster, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2005, 2009 and 2011.
Besides the 1993 Final Four trip, the Buckeyes have advanced twice to the Elite Eight (1985, 1987) and have been Sweet 16 participants on six occasions (1986, 1988, 1989, 2005, 2009, 2011).
