Hart Named B1G Freshman Of The Week
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman forward Alexa Hart was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday for her role in a pair of Buckeye victories last week.
Hart averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in the wins over Purdue and No. 11 Iowa. She scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting against the Boilermakers and then notched her team-leading ninth double-double with 17 points and 10 boards in the upset of Iowa. Hart also swatted four shots against the Hawkeyes, giving her 103 on the season.
This was Hart’s second B1G Freshman of the Week honor as she also earned the award on Dec. 16. A Buckeye has now earned Freshman of the Week honors in eight of the 15 weeks this season.
Junior Ameryst Alston was named to the B1G Honor Roll this week. If it wasn’t for two record-setting performances by Minnesota’s Amanda Zahui B., Alston could have very easily been the Player of the Week. She had her two best B1G games of the year, averaging 27.5 points, 9.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds in the two wins. Alston led the team in scoring both games thanks to a career-high tying five three-pointers in both contests. She also dished-out a career-high 11 assists in the win over Iowa.
Earlier on Tuesday, Alston was added to the Wade Award Watch List which is goes to the country’s most outstanding player.
Alston, Hart and the Buckeyes will return to action this Thursday when they head to State College, Pa., to take on Penn State. Tip-off it set for 7 p.m.
