Mitchell On Four Late Season Watch Lists
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman Kelsey Mitchell was named to the John R. Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 on Thursday. That was the fourth award watch list she has been named to this season.
Last month, Mitchell was named to the Dawn Staley Award Mid-Season Watch List which is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country. She is the only freshman of the 16 players on that list.
She was then named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List which recognizes the top point guard in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball. Ameryst Alston was also named to that list making her and Mitchell the only set of teammates on the 31-player list.
On Tuesday, the Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T named Mitchell to its 30-person Mid-Season Watch List. Both the Naismith and Wooden awards go to the best women’s college basketball player in the country. Mitchell is one of just three freshmen on each list.
Mitchell currently leads the country in scoring at 25.5 points per game and has also made a nation-leading 94 three-pointers. She is averaging over four assists per game and has a team-high 44 steals.
