Mitchell Earns B1G Freshman of the Week Honor
Kelsey Mitchell has been named B1G Freshman of the Week four times this season
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman point guard Kelsey Mitchell averaged 28.5 points per game in the Buckeyes two games last week and was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Mitchell, who is No. 2 in the country in scoring, made a total of 14 three-point field goals, had 57 points and nine assists in the games against No. 23 Minnesota and Penn State.
Against the Gophers, Mitchell made a school-record nine three-pointers and finished with a game-high 36 points despite fouling-out with a minute to play. She also finished with team-highs of seven assists and seven rebounds.
She then scored a team-high 21 points, including five more three-pointers, in the Buckeyes’ win over Penn State on Sunday.
For the season, Mitchell leads the B1G in scoring at 25.3 points per game and is also making an averaging of 3.74 three-pointers per game which is second in the country.
This is Mitchell’s fourth B1G Freshman of the Week honor of the season in addition to B1G and National Player of the Week honors on Dec. 23.
The Buckeyes have this week off and will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 25, when they head to Purdue.
