Ameryst Alston scored a career-high 24 points Monday vs. Purdue.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State freshman guard Ameryst Alston has been named the Big Ten freshman of the week, the conference office announced today. The Canton, Ohio, native averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of road contests against Minnesota and nationally ranked Purdue.
In the road game at Minnesota, Alston scored 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting against the Gophers, also handing out four assists with three rebounds. Then last night, she played a school-record 55 minutes in a triple-overtime thriller against the Boilermakers and finished with a career-high 24 points on 10-of-20 from the field and added six rebounds and five assists.
Alston is averaging 12.0 points per game in Big Ten play and leads the team with 49 assists. It is her first Big Ten weekly honor.
The Buckeyes are back in action at 7 p.m. Thursday vs. Indiana at Value City Arena.
