COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the third time this season, Ohio State senior Kelsey Mitchell has been named the Big Ten’s Player of the Week.
Mitchell led Ohio State to a pair of victories last week, a 91-75 win over Minnesota and a thrilling 78-71 overtime win at No. 22 Michigan on Sunday. The Cincinnati, Ohio native averaged 29 points, four assists and 3.5 rebounds in the two games while also notching four steals.
In the win over Michigan, Mitchell scored 27 of her season-high tying 37 points after halftime, including nine of the team’s 14 points in the decisive overtime period. She tied the game on a coast-to-coast lay-in with 12 seconds to play in regulation and the opened overtime with a three-pointer that put the Buckeyes ahead for good.
This was the 11th time in Mitchell’s career that she has been named the conference’s Player of the Week. She’s earned the distinction twice previously this season, first on Nov. 27 and then again on Dec. 18.
