Both teams started slow but once they got traction, they hit each other with runs. A 7-0 Buckeye run was answered with a 10-0 Eagle run and it was an early 13-9 lead for Winthrop. The Eagles held the lead for nearly 15 minutes in the opening half and led 27-26 at halftime. Mitchell had a game-high 17 points in the first 20 minutes.
