COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State women's basketball team dropped a 64-52 decision to the Bowling Green Falcons on Sunday, with each team playing in its third game in three days at the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic at Value City Arena.
Ohio State, which won two out of three games over the weekend, drops to 5-2 on the season while Bowling Green improves to 6-1.
The Buckeyes were never able to sustain any rhythm offensively as they shot just 25 percent for the game. Despite 12 three-pointers by the Falcons, the Buckeyes kept the game within reach until BG's Jillian Halfhill scored seven consecutive points, turning a two-point BG lead into nine with 11:50 left. Ohio state never recovered from that point and did not get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
"They deserved to win," head coach Kevin McGuff said. "They played harder and had more fight and executed better. We got a little tired, but both teams were playing their third game in three days. We didn't respond with toughness and execution when we got tired. We had a few letdowns while Bowling Green played through their fatigue and that was ultimately the difference in the game."
The Buckeyes shot 24 of 26 from the line, but BG's outside shooting was too much to overcome.
Halfhill finished with 13 points and six assists. Miriam Justinger led BG with 14 and hit four 3-pointers.
Raven Ferguson added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Buckeyes while Darryce Moore added 10 points and five boards. Amy Scullion recorded seven points and seven boards and Cait Craftrounded out the scoring with six.
Ohio State is back in action Wednesday night vs. Lehigh at VCA. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
