COLUMBUS, Ohio - A conference-best 187 Ohio State student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big Ten spring and at-large squads, the Big Ten Conference announced Thursday. In all, 1,154 conference athletes were honored. For the year, the Buckeyes had 312 Academic All-Big Ten honorees and a record 548 were named Ohio State Scholar-Athletes.
Maxwell Stearns, a member of the NCAA champion fencing squad, was recognized as one of 19 Big Ten student-athletes with a 4.0 grade-point average.
The men's track and field squad was first among the Ohio State spring and at-large sports with 19 honorees, followed by men's lacrosse and women's rowing with 18 each. The women's track and field program, coming off a second-consecutive Big Ten outdoor championship, and the fencing program tied for fourth with 17 selections each.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
