Elite Competition Awaits Ohio State in Madison

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's cross country team travels to Madison, Wisc., Oct. 14 for the third-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational.

Friday's event in Madison will provide a huge challenge for the Scarlet and Gray. Second-ranked and host Wisconsin, winner of the last 12 Big Ten cross country championships, headlines a 40-team field that features 20 of the top 30 teams in the nation, including 4th-ranked Stanford, No. 6 BYU and No. 7 Indiana, the defending meet champion. In addition, nine of 11 Big Ten squads will be in attendance, providing an excellent preview of the upcoming Big Ten championship meet.

Buckeye ‘B’ Team Set to Run at Wilmington Fall Classic
The Buckeye ‘B’ team will be in Wilmington, Ohio on Friday for the 8k Wilmington College Fall Classic.

Ohio State’s trip to Southwest Ohio will provide its underclassmen with some valuable competition against a number of smaller Ohio Valley colleges and universities. Among the teams scheduled to compete are host Wilmington, Xavier, Wright State, Ohio Dominican, Muskingum, Rio Grande and Wittenberg.


 

 

Friday’s race at the Wilmington College cross country course is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. ET.

Buckeyes Fifth in USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Rankings
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its Great Lakes regional cross country rankings Oct. 3, with Ohio State checking-in at No. 5 in the weekly poll, a two-spot drop from its last week’s ranking. Second-ranked Wisconsin is the top team in the Great Lakes, followed by seventh-ranked Indiana, No. 26 Michigan and Notre Dame.

In the national top 30, Ohio State is unranked but receiving four votes. Oklahoma State remains the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, followed by the Badgers and Oklahoma.

Ohio State finished in ninth place last season at the adidas Invitational.

Competing without Taylor Williams, the Buckeyes fought their way to an upper division finish on the challenging 8k course with a total team score of 256. No. 25 Indiana (43 points) upset sixth-ranked and host Wisconsin (75 points) for the coveted title, while No. 23 Princeton (112) and 11th-ranked Syracuse (131) finished third and fourth, respectively.   

Chad Balyo led the Buckeye effort with a 34th-place time of 24:14. Jake Edwards finished 43rd (24:24), with Donny Roys following right behind in 44th (24:24). Rounding out the scoring for Ohio State were Adam Green (56th, 24:34) and Julian Meyer (79th, 24:45).

A fund-raising initiative created by head coach Robert Gary, the Ohio State Olympian Club hopes to generate financial support for track and field/cross country projects that are beyond the budget but extremely valuable in enhancing the experiences of the program's student-athletes.

Besides supporting the members of the Ohio State track and field/cross country teams both on and off the track, donations will afford the Buckeyes the opportunity to continue to operate in a first-class manner, while setting a new standard for Division I programs.

Last Time Out
Battling poor weather, a wet course and talented competition, Ohio State finished 12th at the 8k Notre Dame Invitational Sept. 30.

Roys led the OSU contingent, turning in a 24th-place time of 24:44. Williams was the No. 2 runner for the Scarlet and Gray, crossing the finish line in a 62nd-place time of 25:07, one second ahead of teammate Chris Fallon (63rd). Michael Brajdic (81st, 25:17) and Green (96th, 25:28) completed the Buckeye scoring.
