COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s cross country team fought its way to a third-place finish at the 8k Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, Ky., Saturday morning.

The Buckeyes closed the meet with a team score of 92. No. 21 Eastern Kentucky ran its ‘A’ team to a first-place score of 45, while No. 4 Oklahoma State featured several top runners on its way to a runner-up score of 48. The sixth-ranked team in Division II, Southern Indiana, was fourth overall (107).

Ohio State was led by freshman Nick Elswick, who posted a ninth-place time of 24:30.40 in the first 8k race of his career. Two other Buckeyes placed in the Top 18: freshman Clayton Bowie (16th, 24:43.42) and sophomore Adrian Ross (18th, 24:47.29).

“I felt it was a good 8k opener, especially for Nick Elswick, Clayton Bowie and Adrian Ross, who are running extremely well,” distance coach Brice Allen said after the meet. “As a team, we need to be a little more detail oriented and more resilient over the last mile.”

Freshman Mitch Leitch (24th, 24:57.44) and junior Curtis Hanle (29th, 25:05.13) rounded out the scoring for the Buckeyes.
