Remembering Kosta Karageorge

Dec. 2, 2014

Kosta Karageorge

Kosta Karageorge was in his fourth-year as a student-athlete at his hometown school, The Ohio State University, when he tragically lost his life. After three years on the wrestling team, this personable young man, who had a positive presence on and off the field, walked-on to the Ohio State football team in August of 2014 and quickly became a favorite among many. He was described by one teammate as someone who "made every day enjoyable," and was lauded by another for his effort, toughness, passion and loyalty. These were attributes his wrestling teammates already knew.

As a wrestler, Karageorge collected 35 wins during the 2013-14 season, including the heavyweight championship at the Eastern Michigan Open, Appalachian Open and Greyhound Open. He had one major decision, six tech falls and 11 pins. During the 2012-13 campaign, he had runner-up finishes at the Cleveland State Open and Simonson Open while also having the opportunity to compete at the Big Ten Championships. He was constantly described as "a great teammate" and "someone who would give you the shirt off his back."

Kosta, a standout wrestler at and a graduate of Thomas Worthington High School, is the son of Susan and George Karageorge and the brother of Sophia Karageorge.

Funeral services for Kosta were held Dec. 3, 2014 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus, Ohio. He was laid to rest during a private burial ceremony in Athens, Ohio, Dec. 4.
