COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kyle Snyder, a junior on the Ohio State wrestling team, has been named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced today.
Snyder, ranked No. 1 nationally at heavyweight, made his 2016-17 debut last Saturday and defeated fourth-ranked Tanner Hall of Arizona State by major decision, 20-8. The win helped No. 4 Ohio State top the 19th-ranked Sun Devils 27-15.
A native of Woodbine, Md., Snyder became the first American wrestler to return to compete in a collegiate match after winning a Olympic gold medal. He also won his 12th consecutive match dating back to last January. In that span, Snyder has won eight of those bouts via bonus points and scored 20 or more points seven times. He’s averaging 18.7 points/match.
Snyder and the rest of his Buckeye teammates return to action tonight with a tri-meet at Kent State against the host Golden Flashes and Cleveland State beginning at 7 p.m.
