2014-15 Season Begins for No. 2 Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2014-15 season will begin for the No. 2 Ohio State wrestling team this weekend with back-to-back events Saturday and Sunday. Three-time defending NCAA champion Logan Stieber will compete in the NWCA All-Star Classic Saturday evening. The Buckeyes then will participate in the Michigan State Open Sunday.

NWCA All-Star Classic
The 2014 NWCA All-Star Classic will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on Flowrestling.com at the Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. This will be the second straight year Stieber has appeared in the event. Last year, Stieber bumped up to 149 pounds to face returning NCAA champion Kendric Maple of Oklahoma. The match ended with a 6-4 tiebreaker win by Stieber, who earned the event’s Outstanding Wrestler award. As Stieber steps on the mat at the event for the second time, it will be Ohio State's 19th overall appearance in the event.

Buckeyes Hit the Road for Michigan State Open
Ohio State (minus Logan Stieber) will travel to East Lansing, Mich., for the Michigan State Open Nov. 2. The day-long event is the opening contest for the Buckeyes and will feature both attached and unattached wrestlers. The Michigan State Open also will serve as the first collegiate event for Buckeye freshmen Ryan Harris, Seth Williams, Anthony DeCarlo, Kyle Snyder, Cody Burcher, Jake Ryan, Micah Jordan, Thomas Haines and J.P. Newton.

Matches are slated to begin at 9 a.m. and live streaming will be available at Flowrestling.com. Live updates will be provided via the Buckeye wrestling team’s twitter account (@wrestlingbucks) and trackwrestling.com.

Returning All-Americans
Hunter Stieber and Logan Stieber are the Buckeyes’ returning All-Americans. In 2013, H. Stieber was third at 141 pounds while last season L. Stieber won his third-consecutive national title. This season, H. Stieber will bump up to 149 pounds while L. Stieber will stay at 141 pounds.

The Quest for Quarto
Already in select company, redshirt senior Logan Stieber is looking to become part of the elite group of wrestlers to win four NCAA Championships. That feat has only been achieved by three athletes previously – Kyle Dake (Cornell, 2010-13), Cael Sanderson (Iowa State, 1999-02) and Pat Smith (Oklahoma State, 1990-92, 1994).

2014-15 Team Captains
Four members of the Ohio State wrestling team – redshirt senior Logan Stieber, redshirt freshmen Bo Jordan and Nathan Tomasello and true freshman Kyle Snyder – have been voted captains for the 2014-15 season, head coach Tom Ryan announced.

Buckeyes Open Season No. 2 in InterMat Rankings
Ohio State is No. 2 in the inaugural InterMat rankings released Oct. 21. The Buckeyes are one of nine Big Ten Conference programs ranked in the Top 25 of the standings.
