COLUMBUS, Ohio - Several members of the Ohio State wrestling team - including two-time All-American and 2016 NCAA champion Myles Martin - will continue their summer season's this weekend at the UWW Cadet and University Nationals in Akron, Ohio.
This unique event is restricted to athletes currently taking college classes and progressing toward a degree. It includes competition in both freestyle and Greco-Roman.
Martin is one of two athletes among the nearly 600 who are registered that has an NCAA title on his resume. At 86kg, his weight class also includes NCAA third-place finisher Pete Renda of North Carolina State and Nicholas Gravina of Rutgers.
The 65kg bracket features three members of the Scarlet and Gray - Aaron Rehfeldt, Brendan Fitzgerald and Clay Ragon. Of those three, Fitzgerald has the most starting experience for Ohio State: he filled in for Nathan Tomasello last season in duals vs. Arizona State, Kent State and Cleveland State. He won a total of eight matches on the year, seven by pin.
Gary Traub, who competed in 15 matches last winter at open tournaments, is registered at 97kg while Cody Dingess is slated to compete at 74kg. Another redshirt freshman - Fritz Schierl - will wrestle in the University Greco-Roman division at 75kg.
