COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Coming off a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships and bolstered by the return of three national champions, the Ohio State wrestling team will host five Big Ten opponents during the 2016-17 season, head coach Tom Ryan announced today.

The Buckeyes will begin their 2016-17 conference schedule with a matchup against Northwestern on December 16 that will take place at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, the alma mater of rising redshirt junior Nathan Tomasello. Tomasello won four state titles for CVCA and was 141-0 over his final three seasons.

In the month of January, Ohio State starts out with alternating home and away matches the weekend of Jan. 6-8. The Buckeyes travel to Wisconsin on Jan. 6 and then host Rutgers inside St. John Arena on Jan. 8. The Badgers and Scarlet Knights both had Top 25 finishes at last year's NCAA Championships -- Wisconsin was 23rd while Rutgers was 15th.

On Sunday, Jan. 15, Illinois comes to Columbus for a 2 p.m. dual. The Illini feature two-time NCAA champion Isaiah Martinez and finished ninth at last year's NCAA Championships. One week later, on Jan. 22, Ohio State hosts Maryland at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md. Good Counsel is the alma mater of rising junior Kyle Snyder, who competed for the Falcons for three years and went 179-0 without giving up a single takedown.

Three of the final four regular season matches are on the road, starting with a trip to Iowa either January 27 or 29. Ohio State will host defending Big Ten and national champion Penn State on either Feb. 3 or 5 before closing the regular season at Nebraska on Feb. 10 and at Minnesota on Feb. 12.

The 2017 Big Ten Championships will take place March 4-5 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. and the NCAA Championships are slated for March 16-18 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, the same site where the Buckeyes won the national championship in 2015.

Ticket information for the 2016-17 Ohio State wrestling season, in addition to the remainder of the Buckeyes' schedule, will be announced at a later date. Dates for Ohio State's Big Ten matches are subject to change.

Four All-Americans and three national champions return to Ohio State's lineup in 2016-17. Together, the combination of Bo Jordan, Nathan Tomasello, Myles Martin and Kyle Snyder went 92-10 last year with Snyder and Martin claiming the program's 20th and 21st national titles.
