Snyder To Compete In New York's Times Square
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Fresh off a US Open title two weeks ago in Las Vegas, Kyle Snyder will represent Ohio State as part of the "Beat the Streets 2015 Gala" that will feature a match in Times Square between Team USA and Team Cuba (dubbed "Salsa in the Square").
It will be the second straight year that Snyder has wrestled in Times Square. Last summer, he was part of a USA team that defeated the World All-Stars, 8-3.
FloWrestling.com will broadcast the event, which begins at approximately 3:45 p.m. EST on Thursday, May 21. The event is highlighted by world medalists Jordan Burroughs (USA), Snyder (USA), Columbus-native Tervel Dlagnev (USA), Helen Maroulis (USA), Reineris Salas Perez (Cuba) & Livan Lopez Azcuy (Cuba) and will also feature exhibition bouts between wrestlers from Beat the Streets New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore. The event is expected to raise over $1 million for "Beat the Streets," a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop the full human and athletic potential of the urban youth and to strengthen the culture of New York City Wrestling.
In his rookie season this past year with the Buckeyes, Snyder went 30-4 with a team-high 15 major decisions and two technical falls. He was the Big Ten and NCAA runner up at 197 pounds, finishing 15-1 in the regular season against Big Ten competition that included a 12-match winning streak from Jan. 11-March 8. He also helped Ohio State win its first Big Ten title in 64 years and NCAA national title in 94 years.
