COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two-time NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder is set to compete this weekend for the first time since standing atop the podium in St. Louis in March. He'll be joined at by a familiar face to Buckeye fans: Four-time NCAA champion and the newly-crowned World champion, Logan Stieber.
The duo headline Team USA's contingent at the Pan American Championships in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, May 5-7. For Snyder (97kg), it will be his first trip to Brazil since he took home gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, becoming the youngest Olympic wrestling champion in United States history. In addition to going 17-0 for the Buckeyes with a Big Ten and NCAA title to add to his resume, he also competed internationally at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in January, taking home the top prize. At his last appearance at the Pan American Championships in 2015, Snyder outscored his three opponents 31-1 on his way to winning gold.
Stieber will compete at 61kg, the same weight that he won his World title at last December. He last wrestled internationally at the Freestyle World Cup in February, going 3-1 to helping the Americans win silver in the dual-style tournament. Both Snyder and Stieber are No. 1 in the latest United World Wrestling men's freestyle rankings.
