COLUMBUS, Ohio – Big Ten champion and All-American Kollin Moore has been named to Amateur Wrestling News’ 2017 All-Rookie Team, the publication announced today.
Moore had one of the most impressive debut seasons of any freshman in the country, finishing 33-4 overall and helping the Scarlet and Gray win their second team Big Ten title in the last four years by standing atop the podium at 197 lbs. His 15-11 victory over No. 1 seed Brett Pfarr of Minnesota in the finals helped to wrap up the team race. Moore won 19 matches this year via bonus points (six falls, nine major decisions, four technical falls) and is the third freshman All-American for the Scarlet and Gray in the past three years.
At the NCAA Championships, Moore was seeded third and bounced back from a semifinal loss to win two consolation round bouts for a third place finish. In the third place match, he pinned fourth-seeded Jared Haught of Virginia Tech in 2:27 and concluded his season with 18 wins in his final 20 matches.
With Moore’s help, Ohio State finished as the national runner-up at the NCAA Championships, marking the 10th time in the last 11 years that the Tom Ryan-led Buckeyes have placed in the top 10 of the team standings. Ohio State returns all 10 starters and a school-record six All-Americans in 2017-18 while also adding one of the nation’s top-ranked recruiting classes.
