A top-seven finish at the U.S. Open or UWW Junior Freestyle National Championships would secure a spot at the U.S. Freestyle World Team Trials or U.S. UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials, respectively. Both World Team Trial events are set for June 9 and 10 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Logan Stieber and Kyle Snyder are not competing as they've already automatically qualified for the World Team Trials in June.

Coming off his third straight Big Ten title and another third-place finish at the NCAA Championships, Nathan Tomasello opens the freestyle season by taking his shot at the 57kg bracket against a strong field. His field includes four other NCAA champions: Tony Ramos, Nico Megaludis, Nahshon Garrett, and Jesse Delgado. He opens the tournament against Sean Donnelly of All-Navy.

Luke Pletcher, who had a strong true freshman campaign for Ohio State that included a 25-9 record and appearance at the NCAA Championships, is the No. 2 seed at 63kg and will face Jacob Wasser of Nebraska Golden Eagles Wrestling Club in the open round. Kevin Snyder is also slated to compete at 96kg. He went 13-4 last season at open tournaments with a title at the Purple Raider Open.

Among the former Buckeyes slated to compete in the field are Johnni DiJulius (61kg), Hunter Stieber (70kg) and Nick Heflin (86kg). Stieber's field at 70kg includes Olympian James Green, a former Nebraska Cornhusker, and 2017 NCAA champion Jason Nolf. Helfin will contend with the likes of Gabe Dean (Cornell) and Bo Nickal (Penn State) at 86kg.

The Greco Roman season began for Fritz Schierl yesterday as he took fourth place at the Junior tournament at 79kg. The Wisconsin native dropped his first match but wrestled back to earn a place on the podium.
