Logan Stieber Named InterMat Freshman of the Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio– Logan Stieber, who just completed his redshirt freshman season on the Ohio State wrestling team, was named InterMat Freshman of the Year, the wrestling internet publication announced Thursday. The 2012 NCAA and Big Ten Champion at 133 pounds, Stieber received all 10 first-place votes by a committee of InterMat writers and executives for a total of 90 points. Stieber, who hails from Monroeville, Ohio, finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 33-2 overall record and a 15-2 dual mark. Additionally, Stieber posted a 7-1 ledger in Big Ten competition. The team leader in pins, Stieber’s fastest fall came at 43 seconds vs. North Carolina’s Brock Livorio, which took place Nov. 12 in the Wrestle for a Cure Duals in Harrisburg, Pa. During the Big Ten and NCAA championships, four of Stieber’s nine victories were bonus-point wins, including consecutive pins in the opening rounds of the national tournament. All-American Hunter Stieber (141 pounds), the younger brother of Logan, finished fourth in the balloting with 16 points. Fellow freshman All-American Cam Tessari (149 pounds), who also is from Monroeville, Ohio, rounded out the Top 5 with 14 points. 2012 InterMat Freshman of the Year 1.
