PRINCETON, N.J. -- The No. 2 Ohio State University wrestling team placed 10 grapplers on the podium at the Princeton Open, including champions in seven of the 10 weight classes.
Buckeye champions included: Luke Pletcher (133 lbs), Ke-Shawn Hayes (149 lbs), Micah Jordan (157 lbs), Te'Shan Campbell (165 lbs), Bo Jordan (174 lbs), Myles Martin (184 lbs) and Chase Singletary (HWT; competing `unattached').
In addition, Fritz Schierl's runner-up journey advanced all the way to the 165-pound finals before clashing with OSU teammate Te'Shan Campbell. Ethan Smith (unattached) was a third-place finisher at 184 lbs while Brakan Mead (125 lbs) rounded out the Buckeye podium-goers with a fourth-place showing.
While no team scores were kept in the event, Ohio State racked up bonus points at a blistering pace. The Buckeyes totaled five major decisions, 13 tech falls and 11 pins.
Combined, the 12 Buckeyes representing Ohio State as `attached' wrestlers boasted a 43-10 overall mark. Two of those victories came over nationally-ranked foes while true freshman Ethan Smith, wrestling unattached, added a third such triumph when topping No. 20 Mike Fagg-Daves of Rider University in the consolations semifinals. No. 2 Myles Martin also topped Fagg-Daves, and No. 15 Ke-Shawn Hayes downed No. 12 Alfred Bannister (Maryland) in the 149-pound championship bout.
