COLUMBUS, Ohio - Members of the Ohio State men's volleyball team are competing at the 2012 NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship held in Colorado Springs this week. Sophomore Michael Henchy and incoming freshman Driss Guessous are a part of Team USA, while head coach Pete Hanson is serving as head coach for the team and volunteer assistant coach Jake Schick is Team USA's statistician.
The NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship is a tournament held biannually and organized by the North America, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Federation. The United States are the defending champion having won the tournament in 2010.
Team USA opened with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-16) victory over Honduras Monday at the Olympic Training Center to open Pool A play. Henchy tallied six kills in the win, while Guessous finished with two.
In the squad's 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-9) win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tuesday evening, Henchy led all attackers with nine kills, two blocks and two service aces. Guessous added four kills, two blocks and two service aces for the U.S.
Hanson, Henchy and Guessous return to the court Wednesday night, finishing pool play with a 5:30 p.m. MT match vs. Mexico. Both squads enter the match undefeated in Pool A and the winner will get Thursday off to prepare for the tournament's semifinal Friday.
