COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Shawn Sangrey, former member of the Ohio State men's volleyball team, was named to the 12-man roster for the U.S. Men's Pan American Cup team, USA Volleyball announced last week.
Sangrey and Team USA began competition Monday at the Pan American Cup in Mexico City. The seven-team tournament runs Aug. 19-25. Argentina, Brazil and Puerto Rico will compete in Pool A, while Mexico, the United States, Dominican Republic as well as Trinidad and Tobago will be part of Pool B.
Team USA opened the tournament Monday with a 3-2 win over the Dominican Republic. Sangrey picked up a kill in the match.
Sangrey, a 2012 Ohio State graduate, finished his career as an AVCA First Team All-American and was the MIVA Most Valuable Player in 2012. In his senior season, Sangrey finished first in the nation in kills per set and was a five-time MIVA Offensive Player of the Week. The Columbia, Pa., product concluded his four years among the program's best in kills, attacks, service aces and points.
