COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State earned the 2016-17 AVCA Team Academic Award, given to teams posting a 3.30 or better grade-point average for the entire academic year. The Buckeyes are one of only eight Division I-II men's teams to receive the academic recognition and the lone program to do so while also qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
Academic accomplishments have been aplenty for the '16-17 Buckeyes. Ten players picked up Academic All-Big Ten honors while 16 were named MIVA Academic All-Conference. A trio of Buckeyes in Christy Blough, Sanil Thomas and Josh Tublin capped it off as B1G Distinguished Scholars by virtue of minimum GPAs of 3.7 during the past academic year.
The Ohio State women's volleyball program received the AVCA Team Academic Award as well, marking Ohio State as one of only five Division-I institutions in the country with both the women's and men's volleyball teams securing the honor.
