July 23, 2014
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Rising sophomore setter Christy Blough has been selected to the U.S. Men's Junior National Team (MJNT), making a 12-player roster which will represent the Red, White & Blue at the 2014 NORCECA U-21 Continental Championships in El Salvador from July 27-Aug. 4.
Blough was one of 21 players placed on the U.S. Men's Junior National Training Team, competing in Lake Placid, N.Y., beginning on July 13 at the Olympic Training Center before being whittled down to the final dozen.
Joining Blough in El Salvador will be fellow 2013 U.S. Boys' Youth National Team members Soren Dion-Kindem, Kyle Dagostino and Evan Enriques.
Scheduled competition at the NORCECA Continental Championships includes: Barbados, Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and St. Lucia. The United States will share Pool C with Cuba, Mexico and Nicaragua.
Ohio State flavor is nothing new at the NORCECA Continental Championships as current Buckeyes Michael Henchy and Driss Guessous were members of the 2012 Team USA squad, coached by Pete Hanson, which brought home the title.
The NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship is a tournament held biannually and organized by the North America, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Federation. The top three teams qualify for the 2015 FIVB Men's Junior World Championships.
Blough started 21 matches during his rookie campaign as a Buckeye, assisting a team-high 886 put-aways. He added 25 kills, 45 blocks and averaged 1.13 digs per set. The Ontario, N.Y., native was named a Freshman All-America by Off the Block/Sportsbak, Inc.
