COLUMBUS, Ohio - Seniors Shawn Sangrey and Mik Berzins of the Ohio State men's volleyball team were selected as All-Americans by Volleyball Magazine. Sangrey earned First Team accolades, while Berzins picked up Third Team honors.
Sangrey, an AVCA All-America First Team selection, concluded the season among the top in the nation in a handful of statistical categories. The Columbia, Pa., product finished first nationally with a 5.03 kills-per-set average with 548 on the year. He put together four 30-kill performances this year, including a career-high 33 kills in a 3-2 win at Saint Francis in March.
Sangrey also finished among the top 50 nationally in digs (1.92), service aces (0.28) and attack percentage (.277). His 5.66 points-per-set average was one of the best in the country.
For his efforts this season, Sangrey was named the 2012 MIVA Player of the Year. He was a five-time MIVA Offensive player of the Week and the March 6 Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week.
The honor is the first national recognition for Berzins. The outside hitter from Brinklow, Md., finished second on the team with 278 kills and a 2.46 kills-per-set average. Berzins also finished among the nation's best in digs per set (2.08) and attack percentage (.234).
Berzins was recognized in the conference and placed on the MIVA All-Conference First Team. He was named MIVA Defensive Player of the Week on March 5.
