Ohio State Signs Pair for 2014-15 Season
April 28, 2014
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Blake Leeson and Nicolas Szerszen have signed National Letters of Intent to become men's volleyball student-athletes at Ohio State for the 2014-15 season, announced head coach Pete Hanson. The newest Buckeyes will start class during the upcoming semester.
Leeson, hailing from Mequon, Wis., is a 6-foot-7 outsider hitter/opposite attacker. The Homestead High School and Milwaukee Volleyball Club product earned All-Wisconsin honorable mention from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. Leeson plans to major in engineering at Ohio State. He served as a senior mentor to freshmen and was the student representative for the strategic planning committee at Homestead High.
"Blake brings a tall, long athletic frame to our program," said Coach Hanson. "He has a great arm as an attacker and puts up a solid block. His club experience will be very beneficial as he understands winning at all levels. Blake embodies the qualities that we are looking for in an Ohio State student-athlete."
Szerszen is a 6-foot-4 outside hitter from Conflans Ste Hne, France. He is a member of the French National Team pipeline and participated in the Under-19 World Championships during the summer of 2013. Currently a member of the Under-21 travel team, Szerszen is competing in Portugal for a bid to the 2015 U-21 World Championships. His older sister, Anna Szerszen, graduated from OSU in 2011 and finished her playing career ranked 16th all-time in school history with 1,186 career kills. Anna was named to the 2006 Big Ten All-Freshman Team, an Academic All-Big Ten selection from 2007-10 and an OSU Scholar-Athlete from 2007-2011.
"Nicolas brings great volleyball IQ and will be able to side-out and score points from the end line with his serve," said Coach Hanson. "He is currently playing at a very high level of volleyball and we look forward to him making an immediate impact here at Ohio State."
