COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s volleyball team opens the 2012 season ranked eighth in the first American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II Men’s Coaches Top 15 Poll. The Buckeyes are also ranked seventh in Volleyball Magazine Men’s Division I-II Top 10 Poll.
Two other schools from the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association are ranked in the AVCA poll in Loyola-Chicago (10th) and Lewis (13th), while Loyola-Chicago is also ninth by Volleyball Magazine.
Ohio State is coming off the program’s first national title, defeating UC Santa Barbara in five sets in May 2011. The squad concluded the year with a 26-6 record and went 11-1 in the conference. The Buckeyes have won five-consecutive regular season MIVA championships and the last four MIVA tournament championships.
The Scarlet and Gray open the 2012 season at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational, Jan. 6-7. The team kicks off the tournament with a rematch of last year’s NCAA championship match, facing No. 14 UC Santa Barbara at 10 a.m. PT Friday.
