FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The No. 1 Ohio State University men's volleyball team (11-0) stormed into Fort Wayne and swept past the Mastodons (4-9) in quick fashion: 25-17, 25-13, 25-21. The Buckeyes' 34th straight win overall snapped a four-match winning streak for Fort Wayne. Ohio State attacked .523 while drowning the Mastodons to a negative-.031 hitting clip.

The dynamic duo of Miles Johnson and Nicolas Szerszen combined for 25 kills while each swinging .575-plus. Middles Driss Guessous and Blake Leeson found much offensive success as well, pairing up to deliver 10 kills at a .642 attacking rate. Reese Devilbiss did a little bit of everything, posting five kills, four blocks, three digs and a pair of aces. Despite playing in just two sets, Matt Dorn paced all players with five rejections.

 

 

Set 1: The Johnson & Szerszen tandem terminated 11 of 12 attempts in the opening frame as Ohio State led from start to finish. Fort Wayne burned timeouts trailing 9-3 and later at 18-9. As a team, the Buckeyes crushed 17 kills on 23 error-free spikes for a .739 attacking efficiency -- helping to overcome 11 serving blunders in the 25-17 triumph.

Set 2: A rotation error by Ohio State handed the Mastodons their only lead of the second stanza at 1-0. From there the Buckeyes rattled off 25 of the next 37 points to take the frame 25-13. Ohio State cut the service error total to four while ripping three aces and connecting on 12 more kills.

Set 3: After spotting Fort Wayne a 3-0 edge in the third, Ohio State snagged the subsequent seven points and never looked back in the 25-21 clincher. With the cushion shrunk to a lone tally at 12-11, the Buckeyes responded with a four-point spurt to distance themselves for good.

St. John Arena opens its doors to Lewis and Loyola next week in the MIVA home openers. Ohio State hosts the Flyers on Feb. 9 before squaring off against the Ramblers on Feb. 11.
