COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 11 Ohio State men's volleyball concluded the weekend with another sweep at Lindenwood, defeating the Lions 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-20) in St. Charles, Mo., Sunday afternoon. The win moved Ohio State to 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in MIVA competition.
Redshirt sophomore Andrew Lutz totaled 15 kills in the win to lead the Buckeyes, adding a career-high six digs. Sophomore Michael Henchy had eight kills, while seniors Grayson Overman and Chen Levitan totaled five apiece. Setter Peter Heinen had a match-high 34 assists and finished with four digs.
Defensively, Levitan had a team-best 10 digs and libero Brennan Anderson added nine. Overman notched a team-best five blocks, while Tholen finished four. The Buckeye blockers had 10.0 total blocks in the match.
Colin Hackworth led the Lions for the second-straight night, totaling 11 kills overall. Libero Cory Buehler had 10 digs, while Scott Siwicki finished with a match-high six blocks.
The Lions (0-2, 0-2) opened the first set on a 5-1 run to force an early Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes responded on an 8-2 run to take a 10-8 lead. Lindenwood battled back to lock the score at 12 apiece and put together a 4-1 rally to regain the lead at 18-16. Back-to-back kills from Tholen led to a 6-1 Ohio State run and the Buckeyes finished the set on a 2-1 run to win 25-21.
After falling behind to start set two, a kill by Lutz sent the Buckeyes on a four-point run for a 6-4 advantage. Lindenwood fought back and utilized a pair of four-point rallies to take back the lead, 12-8. Ohio State cut the Lion lead at 16-15 with two-straight blocks, but the Lions pushed ahead, 20-16. Following a timeout, a Henchy kill triggered an 8-0 Ohio State rally and put the Buckeyes in front at 23-21. Another Henchy kill gave the squad set point and a Lion error secured a 25-23 Ohio State win.
The two squads exchanged two-point runs to start the third. A kill by Lutz and an Overman/Henchy block gave the Buckeyes a slight 12-10 lead before another Lutz kill sent the squad on a 5-0 run for a 17-12 advantage. Kills from Lutz and Levitan set the score 21-16 and Lutz gave the Buckeyes set point, 24-19. Henchy sealed the victory with a kill and pushed Ohio State to a 25-20 victory.
Ohio State returns to St. John Arena for a pair of non-conference matches Feb. 1-2. The Buckeyes open with a 7 p.m. ET match vs. NJIT Friday and conclude the weekend hosting George Mason at 7 p.m. ET Saturday. Admission for all Ohio State men's volleyball matches is free.
