Honorees must own a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA to qualify
T.J. Read shifted to the coaching staff as the volunteer assistant at the start of the 2014-15 academic year after spending the previous three seasons competing as a student-athlete for the Buckeyes. He helped push the '16 Buckeyes to the program's second NCAA national championship in school history.
Prior to his arrival in Columbus, Read spent four years as an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force. Along with his regular military duties, he was allowed to compete in various states and countries around the world for the Air Force/Armed Forces team. He is still currently a U.S. Air Force Reservist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton.
Read earned all-city and All-American honors while playing at Clovis West High School in Fresno, Calif., and also played club ball for the Central Cal Club. T.J.'s father, Tom, was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1973-76.
