COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman All-American Antonio Blanks and former Ohio State distance star Jeff See qualified for semifinal competition in the 400m hurdles and 1500m run Thursday afternoon at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.
Blanks, the seventh-place finisher in the long hurdles at the 2012 NCAA Championships finished sixth in the fastest heat of the day and 15th overall in the preliminary (time of 51.11) to secure a birth in Friday’s semifinal round, set for 6:35 p.m. ET. 2008 Olympic silver medalist Kerron Clement posted the top time of the day (49.37).
See will also run in semifinal action Friday at 7:25 p.m. ET after placing fourth in his heat and 20th overall in a time of 3:42.03. Jordan McNamara was the first-place qualifier in a time of 3:40.78.
Ohio State was well represented in Thursday’s 3000m steeplechase final. 2012 NCAA bronze medalist Cory Leslie placed ninth overall in a time of 8:33.94, while former All-American Brian Olinger finished 11th in 8:37.93. Evan Jager, 2012 NCAA champion Donn Cabral of Princeton, and Kyle Alcorn will represent the U.S. in the event in London.
