COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State star Brian Olinger and current Buckeye Cory Leslie advanced to the finals of the 3000m steeplechase at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials with outstanding preliminary round performances Monday evening at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Olinger, a five-time All-American and Big Ten champion as a member of the track and field and cross country programs from 2002-2006, finished fifth overall in the preliminary in a time of 8:30.08, while Leslie, a First Team All-American in the event at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championship, placed ninth in a personal-best time of 8:31.08. Dan Huling (8:29.00) posted the top time of the day.
Final round competition in the event is scheduled for Thursday, June 28 at 9:30 p.m. ET. Leslie, along with former Buckeye Jeff See, is also set to run in the 1500m prelims at 7:20 p.m., while Antonio Blanks runs in the 400m hurdle prelims at 9:00 p.m. NBC Sports Network will air live coverage from 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET.
