COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State’s Michael Hartfield placed fourth overall in the long jump finals Sunday afternoon at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Hartfield, the bronze medalist at the NCAA outdoor championships, cleared 8.13m (26-8.25) on his final attempt to finish just shy of third-place competitor Ron Taylor (8.14m/26-8.50) and an automatic berth to the 2013 IAAF World Championships this August in Moscow. George Kitchens claimed the national title at 8.23m (27-0.00).
Despite falling short of the Top 3, Hartfield remains in contention for a spot on Team USA if he meets or exceeds the ‘A’ standard mark of 8.25m (27-0.75) prior to July 20, according to IAAF selection procedures. For more on the qualification process, click here.
