COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Antonio Blanks finished eighth overall in the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles Wednesday evening at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, to advance to Friday’s national championship race at Drake Stadium.
Blanks, a native of Dayton, Ohio, placed third in his section in a time of 50.21 seconds to claim the final qualifying spot. Stanford’s Amaechi Morton posted the top time of the semis, crossing the finish line in 49.37 seconds.
Senior Michael Hartfield and junior Heath Nickles also competed Wednesday for the 19th-ranked Buckeyes. Hartfield closed his Ohio State career with an 11th-place finish in the long jump (7.61/24-11.75), earning Second Team All-American honors in the process. Meanwhile, Nickles sits in 20th place through five events in the decathlon with 3641 points. The Columbus Grove, Ohio, product posted personal-best marks in the 100m (11.34), 400m (49.88), and the shot put (14.16m/46-5.50), where he placed first overall.
