COLUMBUS, Ohio -
Ohio State enjoyed contributions across the board on the opening day of competition at the 2016 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday in Lincoln, Neb.

Freshman Sade Olatoye got the Buckeyes off to a good start, finishing sixth in the women's hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 61.01 meters (200-2.00), a Top-30 mark in Division I this season. Olatoye, from Dublin, Ohio, was the lone freshman scorer in the event.

Ohio State's distance team ended the day in fine fashion, with scorers in both the men's and women's 10,000-meter run. Sophomore Evan Stifel was fourth in the men's 10k in a personal-best time of 29:55.24, while senior Minori Minagawa placed seventh in the women's race in a time of 35:00.25.

With two events completed, Ohio State is seventh in both the men's and women's standings with five team points. Purdue leads the men's competition with 18 points, while Indiana is first on the women's side with 18.

Competition resumes tomorrow morning beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET.
