COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 23rd-ranked Ohio State men’s track and field team opened competition at the 2013 Big Ten Outdoor Championships Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Freshman Joseph Velez starred on day one for Buckeyes, using a personal-best mark of 62.07m (203-8.00) to finish fifth overall and collect four points for the Buckeyes. Minnesota’s Micah Hegerle was the Big Ten champion at 65.34m (214-4.00).

The meet was delayed for approximately an hour and a half due to strong afternoon thunderstorms in the Columbus area.
