COLUMBUS, Ohio – Current and former Ohio State athletes hold the top-4 spots in the heptathlon through four events at the Akron Combined Events at Stile Field House in Akron, Ohio.
McCarty posted wins in the long jump (PR of 7.48m/24-6.50) and 60m dash (7.13) for a one point lead over Woods, who was victorious in the shot put (15.05m/49-4.50) and high jump (2.08m/6-9.75). Action resumes this morning at 10:00 a.m. ET.
The rest of the Buckeyes began competition at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., Friday. Korbin Smith was the top performer for Ohio State at the Loftus Sports Center, placing sixth in the long jump with a 7.27m (23-10.25) leap. All-American Michael Hartfield made his season debut in 11th at 7.11m (23-4).
Other highlights included a pair of top-10 finishes in the 1000m – Chris Fallon placed fourth in 2:24:16 and Josh Sabo ninth in 2:26.01 – and a sixth-place performance by Thomas Davis in the weight throw (17.62m/57-9.75).
