Great Start to the 2016 Season at the Buckeye Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field team opened its 2016 season Friday afternoon with the annual Buckeye Classic at French Field House.
THE SHORT STORY
The Buckeye women opened the year with wins in 13 events. Ohio State swept the Top-6 spots in the 60-meter dash, led by junior Aaliyah Barnes, and featured an impressive 1-2 finish in the 60-meter hurdles from sophomore Chantel Ray (8.41 seconds) and senior Alexis Franklin (8.53 seconds).
On the men’s side, Ohio State was victorious in eight events. The Buckeye throwers, led by redshirt senior J.C. Murasky, posted impressive early season marks, while freshmen Nick Gray (60-meter dash) and DaJuan Seward (triple jump) earned wins in their Ohio State debuts.
Ohio State’s freshmen newcomers were particularly impressive on the night, claiming wins in six events.
Murasky – Won the men’s shot put with an NCAA-leading and indoor personal-best throw of 19.38 meters (63-7.00). Murasky’s winning mark was a foot better than his indoor best from last season. The Zanesville, Ohio, native ranks No. 4 in the event in the OSU indoor record book.
Gray – The Pickerington, Ohio, product debuted with a win in the men’s 60-meter dash in a time of 6.77 seconds, the second-fastest time in the Big Ten this season and the eighth-best time in Division I.
Sade Olatoye – A freshman from Dublin, Ohio, Olatoye was a winner in the women’s shot put at 15.11 meters (49-7.00) and runner-up in the women’s weight throw at 17.89 meters (58-8.50). Olatoye ranks first in the Big Ten in the shot put so far this season and 14th nationally.
Mikaela Seibert – Seibert, a first-year from Waxhaw, N.C., captured first place in the women’s triple jump (12.44 meters/40-9.75) and runner-up in the women’s long jump (5.32 meters/17-5.50). Seibert owns the top triple jump distance in the Big Ten and ranks eighth nationally.
Ohio State travels to Lexington, Ky., for the Kentucky Invitational Jan. 15-16.
