Buckeyes Add Three for 2014

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State director of tennis Ty Tucker announced three additions to the Ohio State men’s tennis team for the 2014 season Tuesday. The talented trio consists of Herkko Pollanen, Matt Mendez and Riley Reist, who will all be starting for the Buckeyes in January. The Scarlet and Gray are coming off a season in which the team posted a 35-3 record, advanced to the NCAA semifinals and won their eighth-consecutive Big Ten championship.
Herkko Pollanen – Helsinki, Finland
Matt Mendez – Mount Pleasant, S.C.
Riley Reist – Hamilton, Ohio
US junior ranking: Reist is No. 1 in Ohio, No. 7 in the Midwest and had the highest national ranking of his career in 2013 at No. 46 … son of Marty and Annie Reist … father had successful collegiate tennis career at Ball State.
“We feel Riley is one of the sleepers in American junior tennis and we’re happy to have signed him,” Tucker said. “He will definitely bring a great work ethic and determination to the locker room. He has what we look for when we recruit players to Ohio State. A guy that fights for every point and has the desire to get as good as he can in tennis. His personality should excel in our program. I am looking forward to working with this young man over the next coming years.”
