COLUMBUS, Ohio – Peter Kobelt and Kevin Metka, members of the Ohio State men’s tennis team, are set to begin competition at the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. The prestigious event, hosted by Columbia University, will begin Thursday with the championship matches scheduled to conclude Sunday at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
The New Albany, Ohio native, Kobelt will face Ray Sarmiento of USC at 3:30 p.m. ET in the first round of the singles draw. In doubles play, Kobelt and Metka will compete against Sam Fleck and Chris Vrabel of Cornell at 9 a.m. Thursday to begin action at the championships. The winner of the doubles match will face Robin Doodman and Ravi Patel of Drake in the round of 16.
Kobelt is 7-2 in singles play, while the Buckeye duo is 10-2 on the fall season, consisting of the ITA All-American Championships which took place Sept 30. through Oct. 6 as well as the Midwest Regional Oct. 17-21. The two-time ITA All-American, Kobelt won the ITA Midwest Regional singles title, while the OSU pair also claimed the doubles regional crown in Columbus.
