Oct. 14, 2011
Attention Buckeye Nation! Looking for more ways to stay up-to-date with the latest Ohio State happenings? Check this out! Every Friday, OhioStateBuckeyes.com features one of the many Ohio State athletic Twitter accounts to follow. The Ohio State men’s tennis team has a busy weekend, hosting the 2011 USTA/ITA Division I Men’s Midwest Regional Championships Oct. 13-17. With that in mind, OhioState_MTEN is today’s Follow Friday.
The six-time defending Big Ten champion Ohio State men’s tennis team has had success at the yearly tournament in the past. Last season, the Buckeyes captured both the singles and doubles titles at Notre Dame. Sophomore Blaz Rola is defending singles champion, while former Buckeye Matt Allare and redshirt sophomore Peter Kobelt took the doubles title.
The Buckeyes entered the 2011 fall season with six ranked singles players in the country: Blaz Rola, Chase Buchanan, Devin McCarthy, Peter Kobelt, Nelson Vick and Ille Van Engelen. The squad is under the direction of 13-year head coach Ty Tucker, who has captured six-consecutive Big Ten Coach of the Year honors and was named 2009 ITA National Coach of the Year.
Be sure to catch all the action of the 2011 USTA/ITA Midwest Regional held at the Varsity Tennis Center and Jess Owens West Recreation Center throughout the weekend. Updates will be posted at OhioState_MTEN and the tournament’s live results page continuously over the next four days.
