  • The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes will take a trip to California during spring break of the academic year to face the No. 13 USC Trojans and the No. 20 Arizona State Sun Devils.
  • The first match will be on Tuesday, March 13 against the Trojans. This match will be played at USC at 6 p.m. ET.
  • The next day, the Buckeyes will then face the Sun Devils at a neutral site at 8 p.m. ET.
  • Coming off a 4-0 loss to No. 21 Georgia, the Scarlet and Gray will get a chance to redeem themselves against two more top-25 teams before heading into mainly Big Ten match play the rest of the season.



  • The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes are heading into this week 12-2 in dual match play.
  • Ohio State faces two top-20 teams this week. They are 6-1 against top-20 teams, including five top-10 teams.
  • The Scarlet and Gray are 3-2 in matches away from home. They have two this week.
  • The Buckeyes have an impressive resume, with wins against No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 9 Florida, No. 10 Texas (sweep), No. 12 Duke (sweep), and No. 19 Notre Dame. Their two losses are to No. 4 UCLA in the quarterfinals of ITA Indoors, and No. 21 Georgia this past Wednesday.
  • Ohio State moved past Stanford this past week to earn No. 2 in the ITA rankings. They are right behind Wake Forest. New team rankings come out on Tuesday.
  • The Buckeyes are also No. 3 in the USTA poll, below Wake Forest and UCLA.
  • The Buckeyes are 47-15 in singles matches, and 22-7 in doubles matches. This gives them a point record on the season of 58-18.
  • The Scarlet and Gray are 11-3 on the season on the doubles point, and 11-0 on the season when winning the doubles point.
  • The Buckeyes possess four top-60 singles players, and a top-10 doubles pairing. The individual rankings will also be updated Tuesday.
  • Mikael Torpegaard is currently No. 2 in the country. He has had nine straight matches against top 100 opponents. He has gone 6-2 (one unfinished) in these bouts, including wins over the then No. 1 and No. 9 players in the country. He sits behind North Carolina’s No. 1 William Blumberg, who defeated Torpegaard during ITA Indoors.
  • Torpegaard also earned his eighth and ninth career Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week recently.
  • Kyle Seelig is sitting at No. 35 in the current rankings. Seelig is 7-3 in dual match play at the No. 4-6 spot.
  • JJ Wolf moved up 14 spots from the last ranking to now be No. 41 in the nation. He is on a three-match winning streak right now, including two ranked players, and has not lost since mid-February.
  • John McNally is No. 65 in the rankings. McNally is also on a winning-streak of four, including two ranked players, and has not lost a match since early February.
  • Veteran Martin Joyce is having a solid year. He is 8-3 in dual match play, and has won against both of his ranked opponents.
  • The Buckeyes singles lineup is rounded out by Tim Seibert, who is 5-2 on the year.
  • Ohio State has a top-10 doubles team in the rankings: No. 7 Torpegaard/Joyce. They moved up three spots from the last rankings They defeated the No. 5 team in the rankings in two straight matches, and are 7-2 on the season.
  • Hunter Tubert and Matt Mendez have also been a strong doubles pairing for the Buckeyes, going 10-1 on the season so far.



  • The Trojans come into the week with a 10-3 record overall and a 2-0 mark in conference action.
  • USC advanced to the ITA Indoor Championships and after defeating Oklahoma State in the opening round, the Trojans fell to eventual champ Wake Forest. USC then rallied for a 4-2 victory over Georgia in the consolation round.
  • The Trojans are scheduled to host Ohio State on Tuesday and then Texas on Wednesday.
  • Sophomore Brandon Holt is the highest ranked Trojan in the singles rankings at No. 12 in the nation. Freshman Daniel Cukierman is at No. 64.
  • In doubles, USC's Brandon Holt and Riley Smith rank No. 26 in the nation, with teammates Jack Jaede and Laurens Verboven popping into the rankings for the first time in early March at No. 52 in the land.



  • The Buckeyes are 3-7 all-time against the Trojans.
  • Some of Ohio State’s most important matchups of all time have been against USC. This includes three NCAA tournament matchups (OSU is 1-2 in these bouts). This also includes back-to back-ITA Indoor finals in 2014 and 2015, which were split between the two teams.
  • The last match between the two teams was a 4-1 win for the Trojans in the 2015 ITA Indoor Team Championships. Torpegaard, a member of the team at the time, will especially be looking to even the score against them.



  • The Sun Devils are 8-4 overall on the season and dropped its first Pac-12 match to No. 3 Stanford 4-3 last week in Tempe.
  • The Buckeyes and Sun Devils have two common opponents so far this season. ASU fell to both Duke and Texas A&M in mid-January while the Buckeyes downed both opponents in mid-February.
  • Prior to last weekend’s match, the Sun Devils won the 70th Annual Blue Gray Tennis Classic. At the oldest collegiate tennis tournament in the country, the Devils defeated No. 33 Alabama – who was previously 14-0 – and came back to Tempe with some new hardware. ASU is the first Pac-12 school to win the prestigious event.
  • Michaël Geerts was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week following the win in Alabama. He is ranked No. 61 in the latest rankings and has won six of his last seven singles matches. His lone loss in that stretch game to No. 11 Tom Fawcett of Stanford.
  • Benjamin Hannestad is the highest ranked Sun Devil at No. 51. He is 16-5 on the year and is coming off a three-set win over No. 36 Axel Geller of Stanford.
  • Makey Rakotomalala is the third Sun Devil ranked at No. 116. He is 7-4 overall and has played mainly at No. 3.
  • ASU has no ranked doubles squads.



  • The Sun Devils have won both of the previous matchups between the two teams.
  • The last matchup between these two teams was a 3-6 setback in 1989.
