Kobelt Collects Back-to-Back B1G Athlete of the Week
Peter Kobelt is 9-1 at No. 1 singles this year and ranked ninth in the latest ITA national poll.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Peter Kobelt, a senior on the No. 1 Ohio State men’s tennis team, was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive time, the conference office announced Tuesday. Kobelt, a native of New Albany, Ohio, earns his third career conference weekly honor.
He posted wins in all four of his matches to lead Ohio State to victories over No. 10 Notre Dame (4-2) and No. 58 Indiana (5-2). Kobelt defeated No. 37 Greg Andrews of Notre Dame (6-7, 7-6, 7-6) and Sam Monette of Indiana (6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3) in the No. 1 singles position. In doubles, he earned victories over No. 17 Andrews and Alex Lawson of Notre Dame (9-7), and Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk of Indiana (8-7 (7-3)), with redshirt junior Kevin Metka.
Kobelt, who moved to No. 9 in the nation in singles in the ITA poll today, is now 9-1 in dual action at No. 1. With Metka, the Buckeye duo is ranked third in the country with a 22-4 mark overall and a 7-2 ledger against nationally-ranked opponents.
The No. 1 Buckeyes are back at home this weekend to host No. 12 North Carolina at 6 p.m. ET Friday and No. 34 Penn State at Noon ET Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Center. As always, admission is free.
