COLUMBUS, Ohio– Peter Kobelt, a redshirt junior on the Ohio State men’s tennis team, advanced to the final of the 2012 ITA All-American Championships Saturday after beating No. 8 seed KU Singh of Georgia, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, in the semifinals at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Kobelt, a native of New Albany, Ohio, will face No. 6 seed Alex Domijan of Virginia at 1 p.m. ET Sunday in the championship match.
The win served as Kobelt’s second win of the day as he also downed Virginia’s Mac Styslinger, 6-4, 6-4, in the quarterfinals earlier.
Senior Connor Smith will play in the consolation singles final at 11 a.m. ET Sunday vs. Jonas Lutjen of Mississippi. Smith, who hails from Tampa, Fla., recorded a pair of straight-set victories Saturday en route to the consolation singles final. In his first match of the day, Smith handed George Washington’s Francisco Dias a 6-2, 6-4 loss before beating Duke’s Raphael Hemmeler, 6-2, 7-5.
