COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State men’s tennis doubles team of Peter Kobelt and Kevin Metka failed to advance to the second round of the doubles main draw at the 2013 ITA All-American Championships Thursday. Additionally, Kobelt competed in the singles main draw and after losing in the first round, won a consolation singles match.

Earning a spot in the doubles main draw after winning three consecutive qualifying matches, Kobelt and Metka faced Virginia’s fifth-seeded team of Mitchell Frank and Mac Styslinger. The two teams were evenly matched, but Kobelt and Metka eventually fell in the tie breaker 8-7 (7). The Buckeye duo will face Tulsa’s Alejandro Espejo and Dylan McCloskey in consolation doubles Friday.

Moving on to main draw singles, USC’s Jonny Wang defeated Kobelt 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Kobelt, the No. 2 seed, then played a consolation singles match vs. Dragos Ignat of Columbia. After winning the first set 6-4, Kobelt was trailing 3-1 before Ignat was forced to retire from the match. Kobelt will face Joran Vliegen of East Carolina in the second round of consolation singles Friday.

In qualifying consolation singles, Chris Diaz won against Victor Ouvrard of Nevada 6-1, 6-1. Penn State’s Russell Bader defeated Constantin Christ 6-4, 6-1 and Florida’s Maxx Lipman beat Hunter Callahan 6-4, 6-2.
