COLUMBUS, Ohio– Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola, members of the Ohio State men’s tennis team, continued their postseason run following opening-round wins in the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Singles Championship Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Buchanan and Rola advanced to the round of 32, which will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Buckeye duo also will team up as the No. 1 tandem in the nation in the doubles championship Thursday afternoon.
Buchanan, No. 10 in the nation, played an early match Wednesday, facing Mikelis Libietis of Tennessee at 10 a.m. The Buckeye from New Albany, Ohio, quickly defeated Libietis 6-0, 6-1 to earn his 30th victory (six losses) of the season. Buchanan will play Kevin King of Georgia Tech in the round of 32.
Ranked ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls, Rola faced Olivier Borsos of LSU and blanked the Tiger in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. A sophomore from Slovenia, Rola will play the winner between Nikola Bubnic (San Diego) and Emilio Gomez (USC) next. Rola now owns a team-leading 33 singles wins on the season vs. six losses.
