COLUMBUS, Ohio - Just because classes are finished for winter break doesn't mean the Ohio State men's swimming and diving team will be taking time off training.
Over the next week, the men's team will be traveling south to train at Saint Andrews School in Boca Raton, Fla. Senior men's swimmer Zach Holmes blogs daily updates from the team's winter training trip.
Weekend Recap Blog- December 15-17
It has been a pretty full weekend here in Boca Raton for the Buckeyes. We have done pretty much everything there is to do at practice in the last few days. Aerobic, anaerobic, IM, stroke, freestyle, power, kicking, pulling and off the blocks work. The hard work has been turning bus rides into more of a slumber party on wheels.
Between practices, time has been filled with the usual: countless games of beach volleyball and getting tan. However, today’s beach trip brought us the unusual: a 30 foot beached sperm whale. There were hundreds of people lined up on the pier and beach trying to catch a glimpse of the giant mammal. Apparently this doesn’t ever happen in Boca and nobody knew how to handle the situation. It took a bulldozer, a tractor, and a boat to finally get the whale off the beach.
We have a few more days left here in Boca with a few more tough practices I am sure. Bring on tomorrow.
Day Two- Friday, December 12, 2012
As a swimmer you form a number of daily routines that rarely change. Swim, eat, school, eat, school, swim, eat, homework, sleep… repeat. However on training trip, those routines get thrown out the window. The morning of day two was a true testament to that.
Right after Brower showed up late, the team bus broke down in the parking lot of our temporary home before we even started moving. No worries however, a new working bus would arrive in about an hour to take us to the pool. In the meantime we headed to the beach to do a dryland that would have made Rocky proud.
